Get Help Walking The Final Season

Because how a church closes matters.

Closing a church is never easy—but it can be done well.

More than 4000 churches close each year, according to recent research. How many of them close well?

Closing Churches Well exists to help congregations, pastors, and leaders navigate the final season of ministry with faithfulness, clarity, and compassion. We believe a church’s closing chapter should honor its history, care deeply for its people, and steward its resources in ways that reflect the gospel.

My name is Rick, and I am the founder of Closing Churches Well. It is my prayer that this site will be a help and encouragement to you. My heart for declining and dying local churches has been forming for many years. That is why I developed this ministry.

If your congregation is struggling, you are not alone—and there is help.

Please explore the website. Whether you are a church member, a local church pastor or leader, or a denominational official, you’ll find information and reflections below meant to offer clarity, courage, and comfort.

We have organized our content into three broad areas — members, leaders, and officials — but you are encouraged to explore the other areas as well.

Think of it as Hospice Care for a local church. We believe a church’s closing chapter should honor its history, care deeply for its people, and steward its resources in ways that reflect the gospel.
